They can also be striped or non-striped. Shiba Inus and Horses can have different colors, too.
The only pet worth noting is that the Little Wolf came out during the post-game (continuing the game after the end credits roll). It could just be a coincidence, but it is worth pointing out for those who want one.
As for animals, they basically revolve around giving you resources. Here are the general animals available:
- Alpaca
- Brown Alpaca
- Sheep
- Suffolk Sheep
- Cow
- Buffalo
- Chicken
- Silkie Chicken
While these may look simple, there’s actually a difference apart from color (brown) and type (Suffolk) when choosing an animal. A brown alpaca gives you brown Alpaca Wool, which matters when trying to unlock outfits from Karina. The same goes for Suffolk-type animals like sheep.
Cows and buffalo give milk and buffalo milk, respectively, but the distinction is not significant since food recipes typically require “milk or dairy” for specific dishes, which applies to both. The same goes for eggs and silkie eggs.

How to Unlock Animals and Pets in Story of Seasons Grand Bazaar
Screenshot by Prima GamesRamon is your go-to vendor for all things animals and pets. His stall is only available every Saturday or bazaar day, so you’ll want to have enough money by then to buy one.
During the first spring in the game, you’ll already see Ramon’s stall up. However, during the first spring, Ramon only offers animals.
You’ll have to wait for the first summer, and you’ll eventually get a cutscene of Ramon greeting you and telling you that pets are now available.
Ramon offers a variety of animals and pets at every bazaar, but the selection is completely random. He only offers four animals and pets, but once you get horses, an additional pet will appear, which is a different colored horse.
Your barn initially has four slots for chickens and four slots for larger animals. However, once you get your second barn from Garon, that one can house six chickens and six larger animals, more than doubling your livestock.
For pets, you’ll eventually get an eight-pet limit, excluding the horse, after progressing a little more in the story.
Even with the extra slots, make sure to choose your animals carefully because you might eventually change your mind. Once you’ve completed Kat’s request to find her escaped chickens, she’ll open a stall where you can rehome your animals and pets. That’s just a wholesome way of giving you an option to let go of your pets.
