Futuremark, creator of computer benchmarking applications PCMark and 3DMark, has announced that it has an Android app in development. Futuremark is targeting tablets, for the time being, predicting plenty of growth in the next few years for tablet gaming. The app is expected to release in 2012.

As an Android modder myself, I can say this is a welcome announcement. Currently there are only a handful of decent benchmarking apps available and the results are easily manipulated and not-necessarily indicative of actual performance. With the release of Infinity Blade on iOS, we have a clear demonstration of just how much computing power many of us are carrying in our pockets.
