As a modern take on the original Grand Theft Auto and Syndicate with some lovely pops of color, Tokyo 42 makes a great first impression. It’s an open-world isometric game about an up-and-coming assassin “embroiled in all sorts of cyber-shenanigans.” There’s stealth. And multiplayer. And the music is so good, I went back to rewatch the trailer twice. Okay, actually, make that thrice.

This in development at SMAC Games, a team made up of “debut game developers (and brothers) Maciek Strychalski and Sean Wright,” with Mode 7 (Frozen Synapse) on publisher duties.

Visually, it’s a lot to take in all at once, but I’m really feeling the overall tone.
