I wasn’t blown away by any means by Dying Light, but I was very surprised that Techland managed to cobble together an open-world game that wasn’t broken, and was rather fun to roam about in. Recently though the dev took to Facebook to announce that if you are playing an unpatched version, you are “playing a different game.” Enhancements are said to include…well…basically everything you can think of.

“Day one patch fixes” are commonplace these days, but there’s something about the way Techland brazenly presented the situation that rubs me the wrong way. “Playing a different game?” Ok, so is the “other game” a broken piece of crap that shouldn’t have been released? It just doesn’t make sense to say that in any context.

On top of that, the developer isn’t doing itself any favors by making DMCA claims against its fans, and actively patching out mods.

Techland gon’ be Techland, I guess.
