The ESRB outed it, and now it’s completely official: Chrono Trigger is coming to the Wii Virtual Console next week on May 16.

You’re looking at the Super Nintendo release here, so don’t expect anything to be changed for the Virtual Console. And what should be changed, anyhow? Not much — the game’s a classic, one of the best role-playing games of its generation, and perhaps of all time. Hell, I don’t even play JRGPs generally, and Chrono Trigger is one of the few I’ve played from start to finish.

Square Enix Japan had confirmed last month that the PlayStation One version of the game will be hitting PlayStation Network. Mobile phones in Japan will also be seeing the game, which is being released in two parts this year.

With all of this Chrono Trigger re-release love, maybe we’ll see some new love for the franchise… perhaps on the 3DS? One can only hope.
