Like TimeSplitters 2’s Anaconda, but the music isn’t incredible

Every now and then I think about Anaconda, a competitive multiplayer minigame embedded in the fantastic TimeSplitters 2. It was basically Snake with full 360 degree movement, and it was glorious. My friends and I probably spent as much time in college playing Anaconda on a multi-tapped PlayStation 2 as we did playing the rest of TimeSplitters 2.

Well, the need for extra peripherals for multiplayer battle Snake is gone now. SQUAKE is on Steam Greenlight, and it looks like it would satisfy my nostalgia for at least a bit. The arenas look a bit larger and more dynamic than the one found in Anaconda, and the “snake” in question is actually a train (that somehow doesn’t require rails). The only thing missing is the mind-invading music, but I’ll let that slide if this gives me an opportunity to reconnect with old friends and force them to crash into my long, luxurious tail (of boxcars).
