Damn you, Zack Gage! The hit iOS crossword search-like puzzle game SpellTower is now out for Mac. Creator Zach Gage sent me a copy today, completely blowing my productivity.

If you’ve somehow missed this form of digital crack, SpellTower has you tracing through stacks of letters to find words in its standard Tower Mode, and a constantly rising row threat (think Tetris) makes the Puzzle Mode even more fun. It’s like a super hip Scrabble with the constant pressure of a tile/block-based puzzle game. Brilliant. And now, with this new Mac release, you can use your mouse or touchpad instead of your mobile phone’s screen.

What’s cool with this Mac version is that it’s windowed instead of fullscreen, so it’s always sitting in the background, waiting for your attention. In my case, it’s making me fall behind in my work as I can’t stop playing!

SpellTower is one of the first games to support Mountain Lion (OS 10.8), and it looks super slick on my MacBook Pro’s Retina display. There’s Game Center leader boards and achievements, as well as  newsound and color options. Gage says that he plans to add iCloud support to continue iOS games, and multiplayer support will come some time after that.

This game is soooo good. $3.99 is the least you’ll ever pay for straight crack. Get it now.
