And a few more stages

Roughly a year ago, Yumi’s Odd Odyssey, a localization of the latest game in the Umihara Kawase series, hit the 3DS. Like its predecessors it involved the simple premise of guiding a young girl across a series of pitfalls, hazards, and enemies to a goal, with a lone fishing lure as your only means of traversal.

Gameplay is deceptively complex with its two-button system, as you can raise or lower the line while you’re attached, turning it into a grappling hook and a bungee cord of sorts. It all works just as well in Sayonara Umihara Kawase+, a new Vita release, which happens to have the original SNES game in tow as a bonus (that still holds up), and a few extra levels.

Yumi may have launched at $29.99 on the eShop, but it’s since dropped down to $19.99, putting it in line with the new Vita pricing. I’ll say the same thing I said when I reviewed the 3DS edition — if you’re crazy about old-school platformers, you’ll likely get your money’s worth, especially with the retro bonus on Vita.

Unless you’re dying to play the mechanically similar original that started it all though, I wouldn’t double-dip.
