Survey: Poor work conditions, sexism, violence hurt industry's reputation

I don’t give a damn about my bad reputation
Recommended VideosIn an International Game Developers Association survey of 2,200 developers, the majority of respondents said that society’s negative perception of the videogame industry stems from reports of the industry’s poor working conditions, sexism in games, sexism in the workforce and the perceived link of videogames to violence.
68% cited reports of poor working conditions affecting a negative view of the industry. 67%, sexism in games. 62%, the perceived link to violence. 51%, sexism in the work force. 49%, the perceived link to obesity.
A bit of a weird question to ask, though. Not, “what’s wrong with the industry?” Instead, “what do you think society thinks is wrong about the industry?” I’m not sure how much All of Society knows about videogame industry working conditions.
Respondents identifying as female is up to 22%, from 11.5% in 2009. 2% responded transgender or “other.”
Only 45% of respondents claimed to have received extra compensation during the nebulous, but generally disparaged “crunch” time. Those who left the industry cited poor quality of life. 41% said they stayed in the industry to earn a living. 40% are following their passion. It shows.
The full report was just made available.
