The news that everyone knew was coming but wanted to hear anyway has broke: Atlus has announced that Persona 2: Eternal Punishment is coming to PSP on May 17th, 2012 in Japan. Eternal Punishment was the only part of Persona 2 to (officially) make it to English-speaking shores back in the PlayStation 1 days. This time the main character is Maya Amano, a party member from Innocent Sin best known for having a pair of hearts on unfortunate places of her shirt. Thanks, character designer Kazuma Kaneko!
Like Persona 2: Innocent Sin‘s PSP rerelease, it’ll be an enhanced port featuring a new soundtrack (though purists can toggle back to the original at any time), improved loading times and technical optimization, new story content from original writer Tadashi Satomi, and an animated opening courtesy of MADHOUSE, who recently made Redline. There’s been no word from Atlus USA as to a potential North American release, but they’ve yet to pass on a proper Persona game, so I doubt they’d do so now.
Between this announcement and the eventual arrival of Persona 4: The Golden on PS Vita, Atlus nerds will finally have the entire Persona series available on the go. You may now begin rejoicing.
