Less than two weeks after Palworld was released to Early Access and it’s become one of the biggest-selling games of this generation. Actually, it’s pretty much close to being the most-played game that’s ever been released on Steam.

That’s according to data from SteamDB. When arranged by “All-Time Peak” figures, we can see that Palworld is at the number two spot with 2,101,867 concurrent players. The only game that’s ahead of it is PUBG: Battlegrounds, which had a staggering 3,257,248 players about six years ago.

In order for Palworld to knock it off its top spot, it needs well over another million concurrent players. As popular as the game is right now, even that’s something of a tall order. But you never know.

Could come crashing down

The fact that Palworld has been unofficially dubbed “Pokémon with guns” has not gone unnoticed. The Pokémon Company itself has said it intends to investigate Pocket Pair’s hit release for signs of copyright infringement. I mean, the statement didn’t say which game in particular, but it’s pretty clear what was being talked about.

On top of that, Palworld continues to get updated, with a recent patch having been sent out within the last hour or so. The game is still in development so a lot of people are encountering some pretty severe bugs.

I myself have pretty much stopped playing it as it’s shut down my Xbox on more than one occasion. That and I can’t really decide whether Palworld is for me. My never having played a Pokémon game in my life could well be contributing to my general apathy towards it. There. That’s a thing you know about me now.
