League of Legends added to Robert Morris University athletics program

The university’s also offering scholarships for it
Recommended VideosThe rise of eSports just keeps becoming more and more prominent. Last year, the United States government began recognizing League of Legends players as professional athletes. Now, an American university’s added the game to its athletic program.
Robert Morris University has added League of Legends to its varsity lineup of sports, and student athletes will begin competing in the MOBA in the fall. RMU is also the first school to offer scholarships to eSports athletes. Half of tuition and half of room and board is available, which works out to about $19,000 per student.
While RMU is the first US school to do this, it’s only a matter of time before we start seeing stories like this with greater frequency. And, although it’s League of Legends now because of its popularity, the widespread acceptance of eSports means that more and more games will eventually be included. There’s no doubt about it (and there hasn’t been for a while): eSports are here to stay.
