Because of the recent events in Japan, production of the NGP has been disrupted, forcing Sony to rethink its global launch strategy. Originally planned to be released in most major regions by the holidays, the NGP may now only appear in a single region (currently unspecified) by year’s end.
In addition to causing a further drop in Sony stocks, this announcement means that the 3DS will have an even greater lead on the NGP. This could be a blessing in disguise, though. Sony can really work on making the NGP launch spectacular, especially in light of the mixed reception of the 3DS launch.
