Petroglyph Games and Grey Box have announced a new PC RTS called Grey Goo. They claim that this title has classic RTS roots, but uses modern design and lessons learned along the way to improve the formula. Their goal was to remove the tedium associated with the genre, freeing players up for what they really want: tactical play.

Grey Goo is set in a world where three groups co-exist — humans, Beta, and Goo. Each will sports its own strategies and units, including “epic” units that tower over the battlefield. The game’s AI was based on real-world Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) concepts; it learns players’ actions and reacts, making for a different experience every time.

Petroglyph says to expect both single-player and competitive multiplayer modes.

Grey Goo is scheduled to come to PC via Steam this fall.
