One of my favorite showings at E3 was Splatoon. It looks so wonderfully simple, yet had a layer of tactical depth that I could really get on board with. But my big concern was that it would have online-only play, and if it didn’t catch on with the masses, it would be a ghost town in a matter of weeks.

Thankfully, that isn’t going to be the case if you can muster up some friends, because Splatoon has local support for up to two players — so that’s something. Speaking to Game Rant, Nintendo stated that the game will have local multiplayer as well as a single player component.

The local mode is called “one-on-one,” and will pit one player with the GamePad against another with a Pro Controller. It’s described as more of a “stalking mode,” which different from the core online four-on-four mode.

We still have a ways to go before this drops though, since it’s scheduled for the first half of 2015.
