Expect two hours this time

Last year was Geoff Keighley’s first time putting on a video game awards show by himself. Like any initial venture, it wasn’t perfect. One of the main complaints was the duration of the event. That’s going to change for The Game Awards 2015.

“Honestly, the show felt a little long last year. We went almost three hours,” Keighley says in this video about the evolution of The Game Awards. “This year, we’re going to try to create a much tighter show. It’s going to be about two hours long, and we’re going to jam-pack it with tons of great content. It’s important that we take what happened last year, try to adapt to the feedback, and build on it this year,” he continued.

Apart from cutting down the running time, Keighley’s also looking to hit a better balance between awards and reveals. For better or for worse, it seems as if that will be achieved by cutting down on exclusives. “We probably had a few too many world premieres last year,” Keighley laments.

The other main component of The Game Awards 2015 will be musical acts. Keighley tweeted that both Chvrches and Deadmau5 will be headlining acts for the show. Deadmau5 is said to be “working on something very special.”

It’s two weeks on-the-nose until the December 3 show takes place. It always serves as both a nice look back and a glimpse forward. But, if we can do that in an hour less time, well, that’s certainly a welcome change.
