Despite the fact that the game has no release date in sight, we’re already hearing talk of Street Fighter X Tekken being ported to the 3DS. In a recent interview, Capcom’s Yoshinori Ono stated “The next step would be to have Street Fighter x Tekken, which is the celebration of all top fighting gamers’ dreams in one, to be on 3DS, where you can play anywhere you want. That’s an ultimate idea. Personally speaking, it should happen. We should probably start making more noise about this. But officially, nothing has been considered yet.” Then a few days later, Ono-san stated that he had nothing official to say about the potential for the game to make the jump to Nintendo’s new hand-held, but to stay tuned for “an important 3DS announcement” next month.

I know a lot of diehard fighting game fans who already hate Street Fighter IV on the 3DS, but for my current lifestyle, it’s a perfect fit. Practicing combos on my way to gaming events, getting some matches in while my significant other hogs the TV with her obsession with 30 Rock; the list goes on. I was all about honing my fight stick on the big screen when I was a unemployed bachelor, but for who I am today, it’s all about seeing how far I can push my skills on the 3DS d-pad.

The only time I really miss the fight stick is when trying to pull off jab-strong-fierce-roundhouse combos. You really need easy access to all six buttons for that. That said, if Street Fighter X Tekken is a primary four-button fighter like Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, I’ll buy it first on the 3DS with no regrets.
