Same goes for Bing

Asked about the possibility of spinning off Microsoft’s Bing and Xbox divisions, founder, technology advisor, and board member Bill Gates said he doesn’t foresee a division of either business unit from the company.

“Well, we’re taking PC gaming — Windows gaming — and Xbox gaming and bringing those a lot closer together,” he told Fox Business. “The power of the PC chip, the graphics chip, means you can do great games there. So I’m sure [Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella] and the team will look at that and, you know, it’s up to them. But we’re going to have an overall gaming strategy, so [spinning off the Xbox business is] not as obvious as you might think.”

Specifically asked if he would support Nadella should he decide to spin off Xbox, Gates said “Absolutely.” Which makes sense given his advisory role. I just can’t picture Nadella doing that, though. And if you’re hoping Bing will go away, based on the interview with Gates, it’s here to stay.
