Luma Island is one of the latest cozy games to hit the scene, and it comes with all of the staples that we’ve come to expect from life sims: crafting, getting to know the locals, exploration, and, perhaps most importantly, fishing.

It’s easy to spend hours gathering up bait and heading to the water to try and gather up all of the available fish in any game. As a completionist, nothing brings me more joy than ticking off everything on a list, and thankfully, Luma Island doesn’t have a very long fish list.

How to catch every fish in Luma Island

There are a total of 16 fish to be reeled in around Luma Island, with four appearing in each of the four areas that unlock as you progress through the story. Here’s how to catch them all, which is particularly useful if you want to complete the Fisherman profession or get the achievement for catching all the fish.

Farm / Town fish

Best bait: Caterpillar

As the first area you’ll have access to during a playthrough, the fish found on the farm or in town are by far the easiest to reel in. After you’ve picked up the Fishing Rod from the box on the beach, you’ll also get a net that can be used to scoop up any Caterpillars you find, which can then be attached to your rod as bait before you can reel in areas fish.

Although these fish can all be found on the farm, you can also catch them while fishing around the town:

Forest fish

Best bait: Grasshopper

It’s a good idea to go into town and upgrade your Fishing Rod before you try to fish in the waters found in the Forest, which is the second area you’re going to come to with slightly more challenging fish. The preferred bait here is Grasshoppers, which are caught in the same way as Caterpillars.

Here are the four fish that can be found in the Forest and where exactly you’ll need to cast:

Mountain fish

Best bait: Earthworm

This is when fishing starts to get really challenging, as you not only have to worry about bait and actually catching the fish but there are also obstacles in the water. Fish will start to loop around rocks, and seaweed will slow you down until you manage to work your way out of it. To make things easier, it’s a good idea to upgrade your Fishing Rod as much as you can before you start seeking out Mountain fish.

Here are all of the four Mountain fish and where to look for them:

Jungle fish

Best bait: Dragonfly

As the last area you’ll unlock, the Jungle is filled with fish that pose the most challenge when trying to reel them in. In addition to the rock and seaweed obstacles introduced in the Mountain area, you’ll also have to deal with whirlpools in the waters of the Jungle, which will capture your bobber and prevent you from reeling it in. Again, upgrading your Fishing Rod as much as possible before fishing in the Jungle is a good idea.
