It should surprise nobody that Nintendo already has its eyes on future handheld systems, but it’s always fun to speculate when a company man confirms it. Shigeru Miyamoto is that man, who has said a thing for the Internet. Things! Internet! Videogames!

“What we’re thinking about right now is probably going to be for a future generation of handheld,” said Miyamoto, sidestepping talk of any potential 3DS hardware revisions. “I really feel like I’m satisfied with the 3DS hardware as it is. I feel like it’s the best for this generation.”

It’s interesting that Miyamoto is implying the next handheld release won’t be a thinner 3DS, nor one with a second analog nub, but a whole new device. Of course, he says that, but I don’t believe it. Even if Miyamoto believes it himself, I have a feeling reality and Nintendo’s rigid business model will say otherwise.
