It’s funny when you hear a clear-cut video game noise out in public. Like when the gas station register belts out a sound effect from Sonic the Hedgehog, or when the Mario coin noise plays. Well, Nintendo is looking to take the latter back, so to speak, by trademarking the “coin” sound. It turns out that the publisher filed back in February, and it only just became public this week.

We’ll see if it pans out for them! I assume it will, and I wonder how it will impact podcasts, YouTube channels, and everyone else that uses the effect.
