Warner Bros. looks set to join THQ and Electronic Arts in embracing the “online pass” scheme — where buyers of used games have to purchase a $10 code in order to use a game’s multiplayer function. 

Interestingly, Warner Bros. doesn’t want customers to know about it. The publisher is not planning to acknowledge the online pass anywhere on the game’s packaging or promo material. Instead, it’s been quietly emailing retailers about it, just to let them know. 

According to WB’s email, customers without a code can play a two-day trial online. After that, they’re expected to shell out 800 Microsoft Points, or $10, to access it. 

Once again, let me just reiterate how the devaluation of the used game market will lead to long-term problems for the health of the industry as gamers lose a financial advantage that may help them buy more brand new games. Kick ass!
