Monster Hunter Wilds has already received a day one patch ahead of launch, players report

While Monster Hunter Wilds officially launches on February 28, some players who pre-purchased the game have already begun preloading it—only to discover a new patch ahead of release.
Recommended VideosReports online indicate that PS5 players preloading Monster Hunter Wilds are also downloading a 17.9GB patch for version 1.000.020, aside from the game’s base 50GB size. This means the game’s base version already includes a day one patch that affects its official release. As of now, Capcom has not released patch notes or publicly addressed the changes introduced in this early update.

Day one patches are common in large-scale games, typically addressing bugs, crashes, and last-minute fixes identified after the game is finalized but before it goes live. These issues are often flagged by reviewers and influencers who receive early access for content creation.
While some Monster Hunter players are concerned about the game’s difficulty, there is no evidence so far that this pre-launch patch includes balance adjustments affecting how challenging the game is for beginners or veterans.
Destructoid’s Monster Hunter Wilds review mention the game is easy for newcomers, but that it has growing challenges as players progress through the boss combats, including monster who can one-hit kill you.
Monster Hunter Wilds preload start times
These reports about the game’s day one patch come from players who got to preload Monster Hunter Wilds earlier than planned.
According to developer CAPCOM, Monster Hunter Wilds should only be available to preload on PS5 48 hours before the launch time in each region, which means the ones getting it the earliest will be at 9pm PST on Feb. 25. This is also when preload for Xbox Series X|S and PC will go live. If you plan on preloading the game, make sure you have enough storage space for both the base game and its patch.
